In a hectic world full of 140 characters or less, it’s easy to forget to make small gestures like these to show respect, appreciation, and professionalism.

Not just in blogging - feel this is great advice for the modern social technology driven world.

10 Steps To Getting A Job With Social Media

  1. Google yourself and clean up any “messes”.
  2. Start a LinkedIn & Twitter Profile.
  3. Use Twitter lists to keep track of prospective employers and industry updates.
  4. Create and maintain a professional presence online.
  5. Manage your career like an entrepreneur by branding and marketing yourself.
  6. Follow the 80/20 Rule when making posts: 80% business oriented, 20% personal. I personally think this percentage can be tweeked depending in your desired job - maybe 70/30…
  7. Reach out and talk to many different types of people on LinkedIn.
  8. Whenever you reach out to someone, always personalize your messages and let people know why you want to connect with them.
  9. Remember that over 85% of available jobs are NOT posted so be creative in your search.
  10. Be specific. Have a goal. Make a plan and stick to it!

Social media is about people. It’s about building long term relationships with them, identically as we do in the real world… If you or your brand are too busy to respond to people, maybe you are in the wrong venue. Would you ignore one of your customers at the order window? Would you ignore a fan at a book signing?
I’m sure we’ve heard this all before when it comes to social media, and many of us are guilty of it… But it’s always good to be reminded.

In the face of endless content streams, it’s hard to stop and take a breath…
You should be sharing about 5 items related to your industry for every 1 thing that is all about you… When someone does something nice like mentioning you, retweeting you or linking to you, take a second to thank them, it goes a long way… If you want people to promote you, promote them.

10 Reasons Business Blogging is Better than Facebook [Infographic]I didn’t even think Blogging vs. Facebook was a legit issue. I always tell my clients to do both for maximum reach.
Though, I’ve had some people tell me, “Why do I need a blog/web site if I already have a Facebook?” I always list all there reasons but my biggest ones are:
#5: Content Hub#8: SEO#10: Stability
Though I might just start showing nay-sayers this inforgraphic. People like infographics LOL
